Navigating the Internet like a pro

With over 3 billion web pages floating around the Internet, the task of finding information can seem quite daunting. Today we discussed some of the basics about Internet web addresses, searching the Internet and smart ways to speed up the Internet experience.

Remember to check back into archives and review the information from April 2001 (archives link is a few inches above this paragraph). Last April, we did a comprehensive look at searching the Internet.

The top three speed tips from this month's session are:

Learn to surf in more than browser window via RIGHT clicking and opening links in a new window
Learn to search effectively using Boolean characters and search terms (again see the April 2001 meeting in the archives)
Organize your bookmarks or favorites so that you can find frequently used web sites easier.

Tedd, one of our long time members, provided us with a fantastic link to an online tutorial about the Internet and Internet searching. You can find that link in our "Member Links" area below.

We also demonstrated some of the features of the Opera web browser as well and gave AOL users some tips on how to speed up their browsers as well.
