| Tonight's topic focused on how to manipulate digital images.
We also had a digital camera demonstration.
Adobe Photo Deluxe 2.0 was the software used for demonstrating image
editing techniques. Adobe was chosen because of it's widespread use
and common inclusion in scanner and digital camera packages.
The most important aspect of learning about digital imaging is in the
"size" of the image. The camera used to demonstrate took pictures
at a resolution (size) of approximately 1100 pixels wide by 850 pixels
tall.
As is, this photo would be too big to work with for email or web pages.
It can be "shrunk" to use for printed documents, but the file size (number
of megabytes used to store it) would remain very large.
We learned how to use the "re-size" function of an image editor to make
the picture more manageable. The recommended size for most uses was
5-6" wide which would translate into approximately 360 pixels wide.
Another tool that proved useful the cloning tool. The cloning
tool allows the user to "copy" a good section of the picture and color
another less desirable area.
Many other tools and techniques were discussed and demonstrated, but
the main thing that came accross was that image editing takes much practice
and patience...no matter what software you use to do the editing.
Some of the other editing software packages that were discussed were
