Burning CD's - Data and Music

The lowly, but still useful, may have met its match. After over fifteen years being the definitive removable media, it looks to be supplanted by the recordable CD (CDR/RW).

Most new computers now ship with a CDRW drive standard. And at less than $0.0008 per megabyte, it makes sense. ZIP drives and floppy disks both cost around $0.08 per megabyte. That's 100X more expensive per megabyte.

Terminology
CDR CD Recordable
CDRW CD ReWritable
Burn Record a CD
Burner Special type of CD that allows recording of a blank CD
16 X 8 X 40 First number is Write speed, second number is ReWrite speed and the last number is Read speed

The write speed is based on the figure of a 1X speed drive can burn 650 megabytes of data in 74 minutes, 37 minutes at 2X, 19 minutes at 4X, etc.
