Mozilla Firefox Alternative
Browser
Firefox is a browser that can work with ANY Internet
service. You simply use it instead of the current browser you use now to
look at web sites.
Why should I consider
using Firefox?
-
The designers of Firefox (mozilla.org) designed the browser
from the ground up to be more efficient and safer than Internet Explorer.
-
Overall, it loads pages faster than Internet Explorer and
does not allow web pages, banner ads and pop-up ads to install programs
(spyware) on your computer without your knowledge.
-
Flexible and customizable
-
Free
-
If you have teenagers using your computer for Internet,
Firefox should be the only browser they use.
-
If you visit gambling and gaming sites, use Firefox
What are some features
or advantages of Firefox?
-
Again, security!
-
Built in Google searching, dictionary, Amazon, and eBay
searching as well.
-
Add any number of free search engines to your browser.
Including Wikipedia, weather, and more!
-
Tabbed browsing (we discussed and demonstrated this awesome
feature in class)
-
Cool and functional use of Middle mouse button
-
Built-in PopUp Blocker (although you won't need it)
-
One of my favorite features...smart printing. None of your
web pages will ever be too wide to print again!!
-
Did I mention it was safer and more secure?
How do I get Firefox?
-
Just click on the large Firefox logo above (or right here)
-
Click the Free Download link that appears on the next screen
you see.
-
Click the appropriate box to save the download. (I recommend
saving it to your desktop). For dialup users, the download will take
approximately 15-20 minutes.
-
Once the download finishes, double-click the new icon on our
desktop that says Firefox and follow the on-screen instructions to install.
Do I have to uninstall
Internet Explorer?
No, Internet Explorer is part of Windows and the two can work
side-by-side without a problem. In rare occasions, some shopping or banks sites
might not function properly in Firefox, so you will need to use Internet
Explorer for those sites.
