Buying and Understanding Digital Cameras 

Thanks to Adam for three great sessions today. Digital cameras and the information surrounding them can be daunting and Adam helped bring some perspective to this topic. Below is a synopsis of his talk today.

1.  Basic equipment for best results / What to look for in a digital camera: 

  1. Zoom is a must 
  2. Look for features you are used to 
  3. Red eye reduction by design

2. General Picture taking:

  1. Master the auto focus 
  2. Don't be afraid to get close 
  3. Rule of thirds 
  4. Angle for interest

3. Resolution: making your camera and printer work together 

  1. ppi vs. dpi 
  2. Photo-realistic is a relative term 
  3. Proof is in the dots 
  4. Beware of the 72 dpi monster 
  5. Paper, Paper, Paper!!

4. Formats and file extensions 

  • BMP vs. JPG vs. TIFF vs. the proprietary monster
