| Thank you to all who attended...we might need to get a larger
venue! Tonight's attendance...34!! I appreciate all of your
support!
Although our Internet connection wasn't blazing tonight, we forged through
a demonstration of how to search for, download, and install shareware and
freeware.
Shareware can be defined as a "try before you buy" software. Most
shareware developers and independent souls who rely on the honor system
for registration dollars. There is a branch of shareware known as
freeware. Freeware, as its name suggests, does not require any payment
for its use.
Here are the most important issues to keep in mind when downloading
and using shareware:
-
Always download from a reputable site (see links below)
-
Make sure you know "where" you are saving the file you downloaded (reccomendation...your
desktop)
-
Install a 'decompression' software such as Win Zip to properly manage and
utilize your downloads
-
Once you initiate a download, there is no need to sit and watch it, you
can continue browsing the Internet or do other computer activities.
Shareware programs can be found for almost any hobby or activity that you
can think of. Some of the shareware contains quite ingenious (yet
simple) solutions to some of the most mundane tasks. Take some time
to research and try a little shareware and you are surely to make less
trips to the software store!
