Microsoft Excel tip that will change your life - Video Tip

Submitted by Rick on November 8, 2007 - 9:27pm.
  • Application Tips

If this tip doesn't change your life, it can change your cube mates life or someone's life who uses Excel a lot.

This short (4 minute) video demonstrates the power of knowing how to quickly navigate around a spreadsheet without using the vertical or horizontal scroll bars.

Even if you don't use Excel, watch the video...it is like a magic show you might see in Las Vegas.

Additional information on named ranges

Submitted by Smart Computer User on January 2, 2008 - 11:58am.

You should also mention you can use the named ranges in formulas, such as "=sum(Cost + Profit)" rather than "=sum(A1 + A2)". Makes a large spreadsheet much easier to debug and understand, particularly when you are sharing it with others.

One more point on named ranges

Submitted by Smart Computer User on January 3, 2008 - 12:47pm.

If you want to edit the range name or the range itself, or remove it entirely, you must use Insert | Name | Define, from the main menu. You can also alternatively create new named ranges in this same dialog box. One word of caution though, any names you define in this dialog box will not display in the Range name drop down list you described.

Easy

Submitted by Smart Computer User on December 30, 2007 - 9:39am.

Ok, instead of clicking in the name box to get to a cell, just hit F5 and enter the cell you want to get to, be it cell adress or name.

Anyone who's been using excel for more than 2 weeks should know this.

I honestly don't remember

Submitted by Rick on November 9, 2007 - 5:25pm.

I learned it probably from reading a book or from someone else at least 10 or so years ago. It seemed so helpful that it stuck with me.
