My last post....

Submitted by Rick on July 16, 2007 - 9:17pm.
  • Riding Shotgun with Rick

Today will be my last post from a Windows machine for at least two weeks. I decided that in order to really test out Ubuntu Linux (which I have been glowing about for the past few months), I will use the machine as my sole computer for the next two weeks. I'm going to leave my Windows machine cold turkey and rely soley on my laptop running Ubuntu. I will access files, as needed, on my Windows' machine, but only via my network through Ubuntu.

As excited as I am to give it a try, I must say that I am a little nervous. I have used Microsoft operating systems only since learning how to use a computer almost twenty years ago. First MSDOS, then Windows 3.0 and up through the current abomination, Vista. I will report my experiences...both the good and the bad every day here at the site via my Shotgun article. However, I would LOVE to have help and input from YOU! Tell me what types of programs or tasks you want me to try out, or give me your suggestions on how to best utilize Ubuntu. Whatever feedback or suggestions you have about my experiment, send them in via a comment to this article or send an email.

For at least the next two weeks, adios from my Windows computer. When you hear from me again, it will be via Ubuntu.

If you liked this post, consider buying me a beer!

Good luck!

I think that is probably the best way to test it out and I am anxious to hear how it goes.

Back it up

Could one of your articles cover back ups: what you will use and how to set it up?

Probably via a USB drive

I will definitely research backup with Ubuntu...I will probably backup manually via a USB drive, but will explore other avenues as well. CD burning and external hard drives work fine with Ubuntu also.
