Make your desktop pretty - Video Tip

shortuct iconThe common theme being written about the new Windows Vista is that it is pretty. And yes, it is pretty. If you are like me, you may not care how your computer looks, but how it performs. But even I get tired of looking at the same old folder and program icons day after day. If you would like to spruce up your desktop a little, you can trade out some of the icons with new ones. To do this, follow these steps on any shortcut (icon with a little arrow on it...see picture):

  1. RIGHT Click the shortcut
  2. Click Properties
  3. Click Change icon
  4. Some programs will have multiple icons from which to choose. Otherwise, click the Browse button and navigate to the Windows\System 32 folder for more choices.
  5. Double-click on the new icon you want to use
  6. Click OK
  7. Click OK again.

If you want more choices or newer icons, look to the web for new inspiration. Here are a handful of sites that you download icons from for free and pay. The last site listed is a free program that lets you create your own icons from your pictures or other art.

  • Fast Icon
  • Pixel Girl
  • Create your icons with Icon Sushi
  • Crystal Clear icons

Search for even more icons at reputable sites like Download.com

Warning from Apple

Apple warns: Vista may damage iPods

IPod users have been warned by Apple that their favorite music player could be damaged by Microsoft’s new computer operating system, Vista. They have urged iPod users to hold off, for now, upgrading their PCs to the latest Microsoft product until it comes up with a compatible version of the software that runs iPods.

The warning however has not deturred hundreds of thousands of PC users from rushing out for thier upgrade. With a $500 Million advertising campaign in full swing supporting Vista, it is likely that any Apple announcement will get lost in the noise.

Microsoft claims that more than 5,000 hardware and software products would work with the new Vista platform.
