How do you tell an emailer to stop forwarding you jokes and hoaxes?

I have a cd drive and a dvd drive in one, and all of a sudden my computer is not recognising the cd part of it. I can play movies, but not cd's.Can you help me.

I look over the incoming messages before opening. Some I just delete without even looking at them, some I open and read. I rarely forward anything myself. Rarely! If I open something that I am pretty sure is concerning a hoax, Urban Legend, etc. I will write the sender a brief message telling them such, referring them to Snopes or Urban Legends websites. I doubt the senders even read my reply since they seem to only be interested in messages that have been forwarded about a hundred times. I have never gotten a response from one of these senders saying "thanks for telling me, sorry for the false information" but I feel better having done so. I assume the senders mean well. I hate the "emotional blackmail" type messages saying I will have bad luck or some child will be denied medical treatment, etc. if I don't forward the message on. What hogwash. Sometimes a truly funny message comes through and that is fun, but I don't send them on. Most people get plenty of email.

Reply and include a link to the hoaxbuster or snopes articles.

I get riled (sometimes), by people who forward me stuff endlessly. Especially when they just indiscriminately forward stuff to me. I send some to Snopes, and some I just delete. Some folks do the "Regifting Thing" with forwards. If it's funny (and appropriate for the crowd I'm talking to), then I'll pass it. I would not forward jokes to my family that are more appropriate for my Army friends here in Iraq. I also do not forward the little girls dying of cancer ones or any of the diseased children ones. I think that it's pretty sick to have these kinds of hoaxes going around that if you don't forward it to ten of your friends, then said little girl/boy will not get the medical treatment they need or whatever the particular hoax is this go-round. If someone is in need, I'll gladly donate money, blood, whatever to help them out. But I just don't see XYZ big medical center holding treatment back from some needy individual because enough emails haven't been forwarded. I knew a girl that wanted to date me pretty badly and I'd send her a quick email about day to day stuff and she would reply with forwards. I told her that if she wanted to send me an email and was that busy/tired/sick/incapacitated/etc.... that she could just type a line or two. She got upset and didn't want to even talk any more. Oh, well. I've had relatives do the same thing. Not email me back with just a line or two, but forward me some crap. Oh well, people find new ways to not have couth as our communications media evolve. Have a great day.

I have asked some people to not sent me forwards & as a result have never heard from them again.

Sending people to Snopes does help and I've managed to influence some folks to check BEFORE sending. I love e-MAIL but not a bunch of hype sent only because I happen to be in their address book. You've heard the phrase "He doesn't suffer fools gladly." Well that surely applies to me and I consider people who just accept everything they receive in an email as a fact, are well, FOOLISH.

I generally enjoy them. For every 1 moronic forward, I receive 3 or 4 good ones, and - let's be honest - it takes than 5 seconds to identify the moronic ones and press the Delete key.

I enjoy 95% of what people send me so I don't care. Maybe when you are retired the little extra time won't matter to you all. I just enjoy

Funny jokes are okay, but if it's a stale or lousy joke, I simply hit reply and send a brief thank you note converted to Webdings or Wingdings with 8pt font.

After identifying the hoax I cut and paste the Snopes link in a "click here" reply - people really need to know when they are wasting time with petitions and other nonsense.

Now, I wonder why my incoming emails have dwindled?

I tell them not to send me any jokes unless it makes THEM laugh out loud.

For hoaxes, I always check snopes.com and then forward the page to them.

Ditto on the complaint of fwd/fwd/fwd trash that accompanies so much of the jokes/hoaxes. If something is good enough to pass along, it should be worth a moment to remove all the previous address groups. Besides, it's safer for those you delete--they're not as apt to wind up as some spam/virus target.

I often just send the Email back to the offending person, then delete it on my end. Sooner or later they each figure out that they are getting everything back and quit sending it. Sue

I don't mind most of the forwards except those that are buried several attachments deep. If the sender can't take the time to include it in the main body of the email or as the first attachment, I won't waste my time digging for it and just delete it.

When several people started sending hoaxes to a large list of addresses, the first time I politely referred them to Snopes. The second time I sent the Snopes referral to "Reply All," and have heard nothing from them since.

I have one particular friend who is of a different political bent then me so I have all of his emails sent to the Spam folder. Then I can look at the subject line & decide then if I want to open it or delete it.

I usually just dump them in the trash...but...if I get something really annoying or stupid repeatedly, I'll usually inform the sender to knock it off or point them to www.snopes.com to show them how bogus their favorite hoax is.

The forwarding of a joke or whatever is evidence that someone was thinking of me. Someone is sharing something with me (however feeble at times). Am I supposed to reject that? Have we gone that far? Good grief.
