Saving Pictures from Email II

With scanners built into sub $100 printers and the onslaught of digital cameras, more pictures are being sent via email than ever before. Search through our archives on the most efficient ways to send your digital photos and ways to resize photos that were sent to you too large.

Today's tip, however, focuses on the recommended method of saving those precious photos from getting lost. One thing I do not recommend doing is saving old email with attachments just so you don't lose your photos. I don't recommend this for two reasons; 1) Most emailers don't back up their email and 2) it takes much longer to look for and view your photos if they are still attached to an email.

Follow the steps below to save your pictures to your hard drive in a folder where you can access them quickly. And once they are safely saved in a folder, you can easily back them up from there as well. Here's how to do it:

1. Open the email with the pictures attached.
2. If the picture automatically shows in the body of the message, then RIGHT click on the picture and choose the "Save Picture As" or "Save As" option.
3. Use the Save dialog box to save the picture to your My Pictures folder or folder of your choosing.
4. Repeat these steps for all the pictures attached to the email.
5. If the photo does not show up in the body of the message, click on the paper clip icon of your email program, then RIGHT click on the photo's name and choose "Save File" or "Save Attachment" or in some email programs "Download attachment".
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 from above to finish the process.

Once the pictures are saved on your computer, you can now use your favorite imaging editing or viewing program to manipulate the photo, view, and print the photo. Also, most importantly, you can now easily backup these photos.
