Stop the Pop-up Ads

Remember that 95% of unruley pop-ups are a result of spyware. These products will help control the pop-ups, but you need to get the cause under control and not treat the symptoms. Search our site for "spyware" to learn more about how to really get rid of the pop-ups once and for all.

Next to spam, pop-up ads rank as the most annoying aspect of the Internet. But being the industrious nation and world that we are, if a problem arises, many possible solutions are invented. With pop-ups, some of the 'solutions' can be more cumbersome than the problem. I have pieced together a brief guide on how you can combat web pop-ups.

First, remember the really annoying pop-ups occur when you visit seedy web sites or click on seedy email. True, sites like AOL, MSN, and Yahoo all have pop-ups as well, but they usually are limited to one or two not the never ending cascade of pop-ups (and pop unders) that these other sites produce. So, be weary of the types of sites you visit and emails you open.

My favorite method of getting rid of the occasional pop-up is to push Ctrl+W on my keyboard (I use Internet Explorer). When a pop-up presents itself, I immediately punch Ctrl+W on my keyboard and the pop-up instantly disappears and I'm on my way.

Our computer bargain guru, Tedd, has had good luck with a product called PopUp Cop . Other good pop-up solutions include Pop-up Stopper  Or you can read a review of some of these and others at the BotSpot web site.

Keep in mind that no one solution will be perfect, but hunt around for what works best for you.

If this helped, consider buying me a beer or an Americano!
