Customizing the Windows XP Start Menu Part II

Submitted by pcsnpixels on December 17, 2005 - 10:47am.
  • Windows Tips

If you RIGHT click on your Start button in Windows XP and click properties, you
will be presented with the "Taskbar and Start Menu properties" box.  From here, you can further put your own personal touches on the new Windows XP start menu.

Fist click on the "Customize" button next to the Start menu option.

From this screen, you can choose either large or small icons for Start menu display, select the number of 'recently' used programs that show up on the menu, and choose whether or not to display your default Internet and email icons.

Click on the Advanced tab to access the really good stuff. You can choose
precisely what system programs are displayed on the menu and how they react. Items like the Control Panel, Favorites menu, Help, Recent documents, My Computer and much more all have their toggles in this valuable menu.

Try displaying your Control Panel icon as a menu, for example, you might like the access. If not, just go back into this menu and reset it to the way it was.

Lastly, if you hate everything about the new start menu, you can go back to
the "classic Start menu by simply clicking on the so named item in the
original screen I guided to you at the beginning of this tip.
