The long-handled old lady grabber

I have written a number of times about tools that make my job easier. I have discussed my Swiss Army knife with a built-in USB flash drive, ball point pen and flash light. The USB hard drive enclosure is also a favorite of mine, but yesterday I found a new tool that I will be getting soon, the long-handled old lady grabber.

Old Lady GrabberContrary to the name I have given it, it is not a tool that grabs old ladies with its long handle. Althought I suppose it could be used that way.

Today a client of mine had a fairly heavy desk with a full back. As I was putting together her new computer I kept dropping wires behind assuming that I would climb under the deskt to weave them together later.

After dropping so many wires behind the desk, I went under and discovered that the desk's full back prevented me from getting to the wires. About five wires lay about three feet out of reach. I debated moving the desk but asked if she had a yard stick instead.

"Let me get my grabber," she said. She commented that at her age her back and legs didn't allow her to bend over and pick stuff up as easily has they once had.

I told her that no matter what age you are, everyone should have a long-handled old lady grabber by their computer desk. It is great for getting to those wires and other goodies that you drop behind the furniture from time to time.

I realize that this tool is not designed exclusively for old ladies. I also realize that old ladies is not the politically correct or polite phrase. However, it did get you to read the article this far.

If you have any comments about my lack of tact, please leave them below.

I'm glad that there are some who are not afraid to occasionally be Non-Politically-Correct.

I'm an old lady that has one of those grabbers and I got a chuckle about the article. I am glad though that you clarified
and stated that they are not just for old ladies, old men use them too!!
And they are especially hepful to any one with a back problem
regardless of age.
I call it my extra long arm.
