Why Don't You Picasa 2?

  • Application Tips

This week's tip is for everyone out there that says, "I have a lot of digital photos on my computer, but I don't know where they are."

If this sounds like you, or if you would just like a way to view all your digital photos in an easy collective interface, Picasa 2 by Google just might be for you.

Picasa 2 is a FREE program that scans your computer for digital photos and arranges them by the date they were created.

After downloading and installing the program it will take a few minutes to scan your hard drive. As it scans it places thumbnails of the photos it finds under a heading of the date that the file was created.

Best of all, Picasa 2 doesn't actually move or change your photos in any way.

Once all of your photos have been found and displayed you have a variety of options. You can backup all of your photos onto CD or another drive on your network. You can show the photos off in a slideshow or create a gift CD for a friend or family member.

Picasa 2 also combines with other Google-owned features such as Blogger.com. Using the Blogger feature, you can easily setup a blog and post photos directly from Picasa 2.

Picasa 2 also comes with many other features that let you easily print one or many photos at a time or you can create simple collages.

If you are a POP3 email user, you can also send photos via email directly from Picasa 2.

Picasa 2 comes with a few photo editing features, but this is not the purpose of the program. Picasa 2 is a simple program designed to help you catalogue all of your photos.

Besides the creative features of Picasa, you can also do basic tasks such as rename, rotate, delete or move individual photos or entire folders of photos. You can also add information such as notes, keywords and descriptions to each photo.

Picasa 2 also has a wonderful search tool at the top of the program. Using the search tool you can search for the photo in your library simply by typing in any information related to the photo such as date, keywords or the brand of camera you used for the shot.

Download Picasa 2 and give it a try.

If this helped, consider buying me a beer or an Americano!
